Let The Earth Hear His Voice

Luke says I should never blog about how I haven’t been blogging lately, but I feel some explanation is in order. One of the things that has been keeping me busy is now done (phew!), and I am excited to be able to talk about it.
About six weeks ago, there was a getogether for ladies from my church. One woman, Jackie, shared her testimony that evening, and mentioned how she had been praying lately that the Lord would show her some more of what her purpose should be now that her children were grown. She talked about how one of the ways God answered the prayer was to prompt her to try out for the cast of a Christian film, soon to be filmed in the area. She had been involved in theater when she was younger, and really enjoyed it. The tryout was a fun experience for her to use her talent to glorify God.
Fast forward to last month, when I am lugging a heavy basket ‘o’ books past the children’s desk at our local library, and see a flyer that says, “Publish A Picture Book Contest” across the top. For whatever reason, Jackie popped into my head, and I popped the page into my basket. See, I have always liked to draw/ paint/ create, but any thoughts of doing any of it on a regular basis have been put on the back burner (ask me why). But this contest seemed doable. I even thought up a good storyline almost immediately. Planning it out in the shower and making sketches during naptime, my excitement grew by the day. My plan was for watercolor pictures, and I started the easier ones first, still lifes of the objects involved in the story. I let it get down to a week to deadline before I even began work on the more important element- my little boy. People have never been my strong suit, and this among other things made me so nervous tackling them in this project. I had to remind myself: “I love to do this. I get to paint my boy in beautiful colors and imagery. If nothing else, I have an enduring depiction of his classic toddler behaviors and his favorite things. I must not stress too much over it.”
Which brings me to the real point of this post. Jackie from church’s love for acting, my love for art in all its forms, and whatever gift you have been given- each of these things God expects us to use and share to His glory. I can make excuses about lack of time, energy, blah blah blah, but the reality is that I can do at least something with the talent I have been blessed with. It would be a shame not to.
I just found out Luke has some pictures from the book- check them out here.
Watch the national bestseller list for my next book- I’m writing the story now.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory, great things He has done.

  1. LOVE the watercolors!! Great work!

Now, you know you’re gonna have to do one for each of the children, don’t you? Can’t wait to see them! :] Let’s see… A minor gets a hair pretty, N’s attitude check, what’s in SB’s purse?, A major, Queen for the day. And sequels… C finds a puzzle; the possibilities are endless.

  2. I’m so excited! Can’t believe you’ve been keeping this from us 🙂 Can’t wait to see and read the book. Are you planning to publish it? This is just perfect for you, where you’re at right now. Also made me glad that I’m using my gift to sing (not just letting it sit on the shelf!). Wish I could draw like you, but have been known to do some writing (better get back to that!).
Keep us posted on the book. I would not be surprised if you won the contest ~
    your sis

  3. V! The pictures are gorgeous! The one of C under blankie is so precious, and the one of how books get left made me laugh. You are talented, and I will not be surprised to hear you’ve won!
